Learning to Listen Again: A Next Step in Healing
Learning to Listen Again: A Next Step in Healing
“Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget.
But it also remembers how to come home.”
After I began sharing my story, something shifted. The weight I had been carrying ~ quietly, tightly ~ started to loosen. Not because it was gone, but because I was no longer holding it alone.
Healing, I’ve learned, doesn’t just happen in the big breakthroughs. It happens in the soft moments too ~ in the way I’ve started to listen.
For so long, I ignored the signals: the tension, the racing heart, the need to freeze or flee. I told myself to “push through,” to be strong, to not make a fuss.
But my body was never trying to shame me. It was trying to protect me. It still is.
Now, when panic starts to rise, I pause. I breathe. I place my hand on my heart. And I ask, What do you need right now, love?
This is the practice. Not perfection, not fixing ~ just presence.
There is another voice I’m learning to hear more clearly: the voice of my inner child.
She doesn’t speak in logic or language. She speaks in feelings. In longings. In silence. Sometimes she just wants to cry. Sometimes she wants to draw, or rest, or be held ~ even if only in my mind.
I no longer tell her to be quiet.
Now, I say, I’m here. I hear you. You matter.
“Healing begins the moment we stop abandoning ourselves.”
If you feel overwhelmed, numb, or unsure where to begin, try this:
Sit quietly for a few moments.
Place one hand on your heart, and one on your belly.
Breathe slowly. Ask yourself: What do I feel? What do I need?
Let the answers come without judgment. Simply notice. Simply listen.
That is healing.
This journey isn’t linear. Some days I feel strong. Others, I feel fragile. But every time I choose compassion over criticism, I return to myself. Every time I pause to listen, I move closer to peace.
You can too.
Wherever you are today, know this: Your healing is unfolding, quietly and beautifully. You are allowed to take your time. And you never have to do it all alone.
Your body is wise. Your heart is worthy. Your voice matters.
Keep going, gently. You are becoming. 🕊️
